Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy teaches us to accept the elements of our lives that are outside of our personal control, and commit to actions that improve and enrich our lives.  ACT helps people become more psychologically flexible - to open up and be present to life, to take actions that are guided by their values, and to live in alignment with their 'best' possible self.

The aim of ACT is not to change our thoughts or emotions, but rather to observe whatever is happening in the moment without judging that experience, and continue to live authentically and with an integrity to our values.

This therapy combines mindfulness and acceptance skills to help clients notice and defuse from the struggles that create difficulty or tension, and behavioural strategies to help people identify - and then do - what what really matters to them.

This includes developing the self compassion, empathy and insight required to move toward being a more emotionally mature, balanced and inter-dependent individual.
